Stephen Ren

Co-Founder, Executive Director 

Stephen is a member of the class of 2018 at North Hollywood High school, and is a strong advocate for the open source initiative, from software to 3D printing to education. Stephen oversees the operation of all components and departments of the team, is head of software, and is responsible for strategic decisions and media relations. Stephen’s other passions include basketball, mathematics, and computer engineering. He has developed analytical mathematics programs relating to complex fractals. Stephen is captain of the school basketball team and was a varsity player since freshman year.

  • Hansub Kim

    Co-Founder, President

    Hansub is a member of the class of 2018 at North Hollywood High School and the founding visionary behind Project Magnify. An avid proponent of educational equality and STEM accessibility, Hansub founded Magnify as a component of his Science Research Club, before opening it up as a separate endeavor. Hansub currently oversees the Magnify cabinet, as well as 3D printing engineering, microscope building, and outreach communication. His other interests include music and mathematics, and has achieved notable recognition in both endeavors such as playing piano on the international stage, violin at Carnegie Hall and qualifying for the USAMO.

  • Ronen Lee

    Chief of Staff

    Ronen Lee is a member of the class of 2019 at North Hollywood High School. As a member of the Project Magnify team, he currently oversees engineering and outreach communications. He also conducts rock  identification activities for Project Magnify based on his knowledge of geology he has obtained as a member of his school’s Science Olympiad team. His interests include physics and music, and is principal trumpet of the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra.

  • Isaiah Hong

    Director of Engineering and Design

    Isaiah Hong is currently a senior attending North Hollywood High School. He participates in multiple robotics and mechanics oriented clubs as well as being the head engineer for Project Magnify. Isaiah has built and designed a variety of 3D printers, and is extremely knowledgeable about the physical structure and workings of 3D printing. As Director of Engineering, he works mostly with building printers with students, explaining their mechanics, and working on robotics and 3D-printing focused areas of the curriculum.

  • Eugene Woo 

    Director of Outreach and Communications

    Eugene is a member of the class of 2018 at North Hollywood High School, and organizes outreach communications with other schools, clubs, and afterschool programs headed by his school district. Eugene is also involved in other community activities, such as tutoring STEM fields to elementary students and playing piano for his local church. His hobbies include basketball and computers, as he has competed in the Cyberpatriot IX National Finals, and is currently working on a program to teach cybersecurity at his local middle school.

  • Marcos Perez

    Web Outreach and Communications

    Marcos is a student at North Hollywood High School’s Class of 2019 who enjoys teaching others through holding astronomy lectures and volunteering at outreach events. In addition to this he loves to conduct research, has received an honorable mention in the California State Science Fair, and wishes to eventually work professionally in a lab. He has recently organized and hosted a star party at North Hollywood High School and frequently volunteers at Griffith Observatory. His hobbies include stargazing, cross country, ultimate frisbee, and volunteering with dogs at NKLA.

  • Richard Shuai

    Treasurer

    Richard Shuai is a senior at North Hollywood High School. As treasurer, he manages fundraising and expenditures and reaches out to possible sponsors. He primarily enjoys studying biology, participating in competitions such as USABO, Science Bowl, and Science Olympiad. He is fluent with computers, as he is part CyberPatriot at North Hollywood and competed in the CyberPatriot IX National Finals. He also spends much of his time coaching teams of younger kids at other schools and tutoring students in science and math.

  • Dohyun Cheon 

    Secretary

    A rising senior at North Hollywood High, Dohyun joined Project Magnify as the group’s secretary in the hopes of spreading his love for science around the LA area. He is currently part of the CyberPatriot team at NHHS, in which he competed at the national level. Academically, Dohyun has placed in the top 100 for the US National Physics Olympiad, gained top marks in the AMC 10 & 12, and competed in the AIME. He is part of the American Regions Mathematics League A1 team and placed 3rd place at the CSU Long Beach’s Math Day. In his spare time, Dohyun enjoys playing the violin.
