A Unique Catalyst For STEM Outreach
For Students by Students: Bringing Hands-On STEM Opportunities to Underprivileged Communities
We are a community organization run by high school students in the Greater Los Angeles Area, united through our passions for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Though many of us go to underfunded public schools, our passions have been enabled and nurtured by the people throughout our lives who have encouraged and helped us along our educational journey. We wish to reciprocate these opportunities to students in underprivileged neighborhoods who otherwise may never obtain the guidance that we have gotten, hoping to improve educational opportunity and leave our impact upon our communities through Project Magnify.
Project Magnify focuses on extending STEM opportunities by 3D printing open-source, Arduino and Raspberry Pi powered robotics and scientific resources, and bringing them to schools in underprivileged communities in Los Angeles. With them, we offer lessons and hands-on experiences to these students in biology, geology, computer science, and engineering. We hope to inspire the students in STEM by demonstrating the tangibility and accessibility of 3D printing – as many of these students are hindered by poor socioeconomic circumstances, but many professional 3D printed resources at the vanguard of STEM only cost pennies to make.
